my poster project

hey guys, after weeks of work and consideration, i've finally completed my poster project. here it is.

this is basically a travel poster that advertises japan, similar to those that you may see in a travel brochure. i love japan! and i've been a fan of their video games and anime for years, so that's why i chose japan as the concept for my poster. originally, i had wanted to make this a parody poster, but since i'm still at a beginner level in illustrator, i couldn't really find a way to make that happen so i decided to just do a travel poster. hopefully i managed to do this fairly well.

tell me what you think of it in the comments section below!

  1. To start off I think your poster would make a really good design for an ipad app, looking to advertise travel destinations. To improve your design you could include pictures of Tokyo Disneyland, Japanese cuisine, and Tokyo tower like mentioned in the text, the map of japan also doesn't seem necessary. One last thing, the text at the top "Come to Japan" is coming off as a bit demanding. Maybe it could be changed to "Welcome to Japan" or "Enjoy your stay at Japan". Just something more welcoming would be nice. Nice design regardless

  2. Make the pictures at the bottom bigger so they are more of a focal point for the whole poster. The font should also be bigger so the reader doesn’t have to get close to the page to read it. Maybe make the font a shade of yellow or brighter color so the reader can see it better. Try to make the title stand out a little more. I like the idea of a traveling poster and the image that was used as the background.

  3. I like the design of your poster. It shows the natural beauty of Japan as well as Japan's urban settings. The text in the box is a bit hard to read maybe making the text itself larger or a different color might help. Try to add pictures of the Tokyo tower and Tokyo Disneyland to go with the line of text that mentions them.

  4. I really like the look. It really feels light and fresh, The text at the bottom seems a little bit small for me. The color pallets and font for the main title is really good. But just fix the fonts at the bottom and you are good to go!

    1. Another thing that I would change is to make the bottom pictures a little bigger so that way the background won't overwhelm the smaller pictures, but good job!

  5. I would defiantly think about changing the main font on this poster. It doesn't work well with the main picture and the text is the focal point of this poster and the txt is lacking. As for the rest, the main picture is perfect. telling you exactly where it is without needing text.

  6. Looks like something I that would be interactive with a personal device. Looks great but I feel as though the text does not fit the feel of the rest of the project.

  7. I've always wanted to go to Japan some day and this poster really shows the beauty of Japan. You picked a good image for the background and it looks like app for an Ipad because of how the HD the background looks. Couple things I would change would be maybe the text "Come To Japan" maybe say something different it seems too demanding by saying to just Come to Japan. Also maybe the bottom text should be a different color because it kind of blends into the background a bit or maybe bold it so its easier to read. The bottom images are good all except maybe the map you should get rid of. I don't think it's need for this. Maybe you should add a picture of one of the other places you mentioned at the bottom like Tokyo Disneyland.

  8. I agree that this poster has the feel of a travel brochure or even some kind of interactive app. I think the main draw to the poster is the very colorful, detailed, and beautiful photograph that you chose as a backdrop for the whole design. The font that you used seems like a good choice-it seems regal or stately, which makes me think of levels of hierarchy in Asian culture. I would play with the color more, however. The red doesn’t connect to anywhere else in the poster, except for one of the small images at the bottom. There are pinks in the large photo, but I don’t think that fuschia color would be a good choice either. I think the white that I saw you working with in class would be a better fit and would draw us back down into the white areas of the photograph. I think the transparent information bar at the bottom works well because it doesn’t stop the visual flow of the underneath photo-we can still view it and our eye gathers that it continues through the whole poster. The size of the photos could be a little larger so we can see the images a little better. You would have to play with this subtly, so you don’t crowd the bottom section too much. You could always take out one of the photos if necessary. Lastly, another thing to play with would be putting the photos above the written text, and the written text at the bottom of the transparent section, just to see how that affects the visual flow. It might be better this way in the end, but that is another thing to play with.

  9. Your use of color is really striking here. With all the green and the contrasting text. I find the smaller text in the lower section a little difficult to read. Maybe if it were a little bit bigger.

  10. This looks very professional! I think the text is a nice choice, but I would've chosen a different color. Also, I think you could've been more subtle with the main message.

  11. This is looks very good. Very clean, balanced, and exciting. The only constructive criticism I could say is the grey inside the box could be SLIGHTLY darker to make the text easier to read. Aside from that, awesome work.

    1. Added Note: It would have been nice to have the font changed in the postcard. Seems too bland.

  14. Very nice on poster, I like the clear setting to this looks perfect. Only thing I kinda want to criticize on is that the text area is kind of hard to see. Other than that, that's all I have to say. Very nice poster.
